Frequently Asked Questions

The difference in an accountant and a bookkeeper lies in their responsibilities and their education. An accountant’s key role is to review and audit financial data provided by the bookkeeper and provide financial advice to business owners and individuals. Accountants don’t necessarily engage themselves in the company’s day to day financial operations. Accountant’s usually have a bachelors degree or their CPA license upon passing a national exam. A bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining and organizing financial transactions on a daily basis to then provide to your accountants. Bookkeepers must update the financial records and make sure they are accurate at all times.

Freelance bookkeepers are a more cost effective option for small business owners. Accounting firms often have bookkeepers on staff and will charge you a substantial amount for those services. Understandably so, their overhead costs are larger and the costs of their services will reflect that. When considering a freelancer with an NACPB certification and many years in the industry, you don’t have to give up the knowledge and experience in exchange for affordability.

Absolutely! It's common for business owners to fall behind on their bookkeeping, even if they have been doing it themselves or have hired other help. As a new client, we conduct an audit of your books and provide you with a report outlining the updates and cleanup required, if any, along with an estimate and basic timeline. As we start working together, we will customize your chart of accounts and financial reports to suit your business' unique needs. We can also suggest upgrades to your systems and processes that integrate with a cloud-based approach.

No, we cannot file your taxes but we can help you prep for them and send everything to your CPA on your behalf. A CPA is someone who specializes in tax preparation and they handle this task separately from us. By using a CPA in addition to a bookkeeper, you will benefit from the unique expertise of each profession and avoid overpaying for your services.

Yes! We work remotely with most of our clients and can communicate with you over phone, email or even via video call. Regardless of where you are, we can keep your books in check and communicate with you efficiently. We have clients all over the United States and have plenty of secure options to send documents back and forth if need be.

100%! You will retain complete control over your business. A bookkeeper only assists you by managing the financial details of your operations, allowing you to concentrate on expanding your business. All business decisions remain your responsibility at all times.

We use Quickbooks, both online and desktop. A lot of other softwares can integrate into Quickbooks to make it easier if you prefer something else but Quickbooks is where we are certified, have the experience and are most efficient. Most CPA offices support or prefer Quickbooks and this makes tax season a much more streamlined experience. If you use another software, we are happy to help you make the switch at no additional charge to you.
